This ebook shares my spiritual journey with you so that you may know that if you seek God, you will find Him, although you may find, as I did, that it is He who seeks us because He loves us. I went from a place of trying to keep all the rules to knowing that I am forgiven through Jesus' sacrifice for me and living freely as a result.
For most of my life, I believed that God was there. Still, it was not until my early teens that I became more aware that I was accountable to Him in some way, so I plunged in earnest into church activities and sought to live for God more fully, attending services, bible studies and reading Christian books. After a while, I found that however much I sought to live for Jesus, I always felt that I could never get it right as I was only too aware of the inward battle. This led to a downward spiral into depression, despair and an eating disorder as I sought to become perfect for God.
Jesus spoke to me clearly at a bible study one evening, saying that He knew I couldn’t keep up living a perfect life; that’s why He died for me. I felt a heavy burden being lifted; all the guilt was gone. There was hope and a new joy in my heart. After a few months, God reassured me that He was in my life and that He would guide me in the future when I needed to know which way to go.
In the book of Romans, Paul discusses the despair that results from the conflict between knowing what is right and being able to do it. Jesus' death brings us life. We no longer feel condemned because we can’t keep the rules, but we can live in union with Jesus, a life free of condemnation as we live through the power of the Holy Spirit.
We can’t live a Christian life without Christ in us. Instead of being driven by religion, Jesus tells us to come to Him with our burdens of guilt, and He will give us rest and an easy yoke. Instead of the burden of rule-keeping, we live close to God, with His Spirit helping us be like Jesus. Our lives have more purpose and meaning when we live them through Christ in us.
I hope this book will bless your heart.
